Medical Explainer: What happens to your body after a miscarriage?
The animation for TEDEd provides a comprehensive overview of miscarriage, addressing its prevalence with approximately 23 million cases globally each year. Despite its commonality, miscarriage remains a taboo topic, contributing to feelings of isolation and self-blame among those affected. It explains that most miscarriages are caused by genetic abnormalities or other factors beyond an individual's control, dispelling myths that often lead to misplaced guilt.
During the storyboarding phase, we engaged in extensive ideation sessions, collaborating closely with both our clients and our team. This collaborative effort brought valuable creative input to the project.
The storyboard served as a comprehensive tool for our client, providing a clear visual roadmap and setting expectations for the illustration phase. This phase not only fuelled creativity but also laid a solid foundation for smooth execution in subsequent project stages.
The physiological processes during early pregnancy are detailed, emphasizing the intricate hormonal mechanisms and the challenges of embryo development. Treatment options such as watch-and-wait, medication (mifepristone and misoprostol), and vacuum aspiration are discussed for managing miscarriage safely and effectively.
The animation also highlights the disparity in access to these essential healthcare options globally and underscores the importance of ensuring comprehensive reproductive healthcare for all individuals.
